practical notes

getting to Sixty Eight Northin Lapland.

Most guests reach the retreat in a single day from anywhere in Europe. We open December through March. This page is the short version of everything we’d write to you in the welcome letter: the flight, the transfer, and the arrival.

in a sentence

Fly to Kittilä (KTT) via Helsinki, a small Arctic airport twenty five minutes south of the retreat. We meet you at arrivals, drive you north of Lapland, and welcome you home. For most guests, that’s the whole of the logistics.

by air

Kittilä is the closest airport (21 km / 25 min). Finnair runs a daily service from Helsinki (HEL). The connection takes about 1h 30m, and across our season, direct charters run from London, Manchester, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, and a rotating handful of other hubs.

via Helsinki
most guests connect through HEL. Allow 60 minutes of layover on arrival, 90 minutes on departure in winter to be calm about snow delays.

Rovaniemi (RVN), 2h 40m by road south-east. A good fallback if Kittilä is weather-closed; hire cars in the region run on studded tyres all winter.

by car

From Rovaniemi, the retreat is a 2h 40m drive north on the E8. The road is well maintained year-round but studded tyres are essential from October to April; any hire car booked in the region is already equipped.

driving from Rovaniemi
≈ 170 km north on the E8 via Sodankylä. Allow three hours in winter. Roads are cleared well; studded tyres are compulsory October to April and already on any regional hire car.

the transfer

Airport transfers from Kittilä (KTT) can be arranged on request. Please let us know your flight details and if you require transfers.

If your flight is delayed, nothing to do on your side. We track it and wait. Delays inside a few hours are part of winter travel up here.

the arrival

On arrival at Sixty Eight North, your Arctic forest retreat in Levi, Finnish Lapland, you will be welcomed and guided to your private cabin. Luggage transfer is included, followed by a short introduction to your cabin and the surrounding forest.

The rest of the day is yours to settle in and enjoy the quiet of the Arctic.

Check-in is from 15:00.

mobility & access

The retreat sits in living forest, with boardwalks and timber paths rather than paved ones. Both cabins sit a short, level walk from the car-park; the lodge and the sauna have a single step at the threshold.

Write to us with any mobility requirements in letter one and we’ll be honest about what is and isn’t comfortable. We’d rather say so in advance than disappoint on arrival.

the day itself

A week before arrival we send a short welcome note with your driver’s name, the expected weather for the week, and what we’ve put aside for your first evening. Your phone number is in the letter. If anything changes on the day, a WhatsApp message reaches someone at the lodge within minutes.

For what to wear and what the weather looks like across our season, see our journal post on what to pack for a Lapland winter.

Write to [email protected] if anything on this page needs to be clearer for you. See also our booking terms and privacy notice.
