A figure crouched beside an auger-drilled hole in the ice of a frozen lake in Lapland.

ice-fishing on a frozen lake

the day itself

what to expect

Our local guide leads you out onto the lake with an auger, a line, and the kind of patience only winter teaches. You'll drill a hole through thick ice, a simple, satisfying thing to do with your hands, and drop a line into the dark water below. It's a method passed down through generations here, and the pace is unhurried. As you wait, there are quiet stories, a hot drink in a Kuksa, and snacks. Two to three hours, weather depending. Suitable for beginners; no prior experience needed.
