Nets laid out on the ice of a frozen Lapland lake.

private net fishing with lunch

the day itself

what to expect

Juomustus is an ancient form of winter fishing that has been used for centuries in Lapland. Before heading out, a local fisherman walks you through the technique: how the nets are inserted under the lake ice, what tools the work demands, and the wisdom passed down through generations. Then you walk on the lake itself and pull the nets back from beneath. After the fishing, a cooking experience takes place inside a Lappish kota: fresh fish soup over the open fire, homemade sweet pies, and the warmth of the flames. About three hours, weather permitting.
